in partnership with the MAA to deliver online placement
tests.”.. The second is Structural Mechanics for Maple,
an add-on package to Maple 10 which allows the calculation of
statics and dynamics of spatial beam structures including discrete
masses and inertias in points, springs and dampers. In addition,
check out recent news on the Adoption Program, Seminars and Tip & Techniques.

 We
hope you find this month’s issue an enjoyable and informative

Test	Suite Now Available Developed in partnership with the
                                    Mathematical Association of America (MAA),
the largest professional society that focuses
                                    on undergraduate mathematics, the Placement
Test Suite dramatically enhances colleges’ and
universities’ ability to assess students’ knowledge
of math. The new product replaces the MAA’s
paper-based placement tests, which have been
used by hundreds of institutions across North
America since 1977. The new tests are delivered
by a powerful Web-based system, automatically
                                    assessing student responses and performance.

Maple™ is a collection of procedures which
gives engineers and scientists familiar with
                                the theory of Structural

approach to the calculation of statics and dynamics

Solutions Inc. Releases New Version of Product
to be Compatible with Maple VisSim™ provides a seamless connection to the Maple symbolic computation
system in its new release, Professional VisSim 6. The new Maple interface blocks
communicate with Maple. These blocks allow the reading and writing of scalar
and matrix data to the Maple workspace, as well as execution of Maple scripts,
which means you can manipulate data in a symbolic or algebraic manner, and display
it in dynamic 3-dimensional plots. This brings a fast smooth interface between
VisSim and Maple.

continues to receive much press. Recently there has
been coverage in the Associated Press, CNN, Desktop
Engineering and 2Math.The following editorial by
Jim Cooper was featured in the Desktop Engineering: Desktop Engineering, February 2006Fading
Number of Students Threaten Our Technology Leadership

“The long-term solution for this dilemma is
a drastic improvement of the image of technology
                            in North America
to convince more of our best and brightest students
to enter the technical fields. In an open market,
however, it’s not clear how to do this. Even
if our younger generation recognizes the importance
of technology in building a better future, it could
take many years to compensate for the smaller numbers
                            of graduating engineers and scientists”.
