Swinging Atwood's Machine – Multibody, Multi-Domain Physical Model in MapleSim – Maplesoft

Swinging Atwood's Machine

The swinging Atwood’s machine (SAM) is a dynamic system that produces a chaotic response based on the initial conditions. The SAM uses a large ratio between the masses M and m. Changing the values of initial angle and/or the two masses can result in significantly different responses.

This example shows the result with M/m = 4.5 and the initial condition is such that the small mass is located horizontally with the pivot.
